Mercy Ships

Dr. Barr recently spent 2 weeks aboard the African Mercy hospital ship off the coast of Conakry, Guinea, West Africa. The ship is owned by Mercy Ships and is a Christian ministry to bring hope and healing to the forgotten poor. Some of the poorest people in the world reside along Africas west coast and they have essentially no access to health care. The ship has 8 decks housing 6 operating rooms, 75 patient rooms, and facilities to house 450 volunteers from 30 -35 countries. Doctors, nurses, and support staff spend from 2 weeks up to over one year on board with each volunteer paying his own way. In two weeks, Dr Barr performed surgery on over 50 patients onboard the ship. He invites you to visit their website at mercyships.org and view a recent documentary done by 60 Minutes.
